The Pendleton Dwelling Chair

$250.00

BY VALERIE YOST

Inspiration
The gorgeous Pendleton wool was the inspiration behind this chair. This particular pattern is part of Pendleton's heritage blanket collection and is called the Pendleton Dwelling blanket which was first made in 1923. Being from Pendleton and a member of the Umatilla Tribe, using this wool on the seat cushion was very important to me.

Unique Elements & Features
I wanted to play off the geometric tribal pattern in the wool by adding some painted gold motifs on the chair back as well as one chair leg. This also further enhanced the asymmetrical design in the wool.

Message & Emotion
Although the design on the seat fabric is over 100 years old, I wanted this chair to feel modern and clean.

Creative Process & Insights
I used oven cleaner to remove years of pizza grease at the beginning of this project!
