The Billie Chair

Inspiration
I wanted the chair to look light and refreshed overall, really highlighting the natural characteristics of the wood and leather. I also wanted to introduce color in an unexpected way and have fallen in love with some of the abstract rugs/weavings I’ve seen lately.

Unique Elements & Features
I bought all of my materials for the chair locally! I used Rubio Monocoat finish on the chair which I sourced from Hardwood Industries. The vibrant wool yarns used in the backrest weaving are from Fancywork Yarn Shop. The leather used to upholster the seat is from Maverick Leather Company. We have so many beautiful materials to choose from right in town!

Message & Emotion
I wanted The Billie Chair to feel lighthearted and joyful. I hope that when people look at it (and touch it), it brings a smile to their face.

Creative Process & Insights
The latchhook weaving on the backrest is my favorite element of the chair. I did a lot of research into different latchwork/rug patterns and did a lot of sketching to nail down the look/texture/distribution of color, but when it came time to translate my pattern, I just ended up creating as I went and ultimately love how it came out! The design process is always such a fun experiment.
