It All Comes Together
Violet’s journey is one of personal struggle, but also personal triumph. Her story shows the possibility of an individual determined for a fresh start and the power of a community that rallies support around a neighbor in need.
Struggling through addiction, an unhealthy relationship and homelessness, Violet knew she needed help. She knew she needed to stay clean so that she wouldn’t lose the steps towards her goal of having a home. With assistance from Deschutes County Behavioral Health, NeighborImpact and Shepherd’s House Ministries, Violet secured counseling, financial support and housing after many years of deliberately piecing together a sober life on the streets and in hotels.
“I was so grateful, but I was also worried. How was I going to afford moving costs? Furniture? Silverware? Like, it’s those little things. Literally, the only thing I had was a plant and my clothes. Now, I literally just kind of stand in awe and stare at my things. I never would have dreamed any of this. To have some place of my own is very special. I can breathe and relax again.” ~ Violet
Violet’s new chapter is proof that community relationships make a difference and that successful beginnings come from strong, supported roots. When a team of volunteers from Furnish Hope and Shepherd’s House arrived to help deliver her furniture, Violet remembers everyone jumping in to help, even all the way up to her second floor apartment! She realized she had a support system and that it was not just one person. She was no longer alone.
“It does all come together - everybody comes together - and without that, I think all of this would be very hard.” ~ Violet
