Volunteers in Action

Volunteers work in teams so when you need time off the operations keep going! Help with donation receiving, organizing, cleaning, packing, loading, delivering and more!

Honestly my favorite part of being involved with Furnish Hope is the volunteers. I found myself drawn more and more to the degree of their empathy, their compassion, and their desire to want to help, and I just thought I need more of that in my life.”

Chris Rouse - Donation Center Manager at Furnish Hope

  • "Furnish Hope has been on my heart since the very first time I read about how your organization is helping families in need, the specific way you are spreading hope. I knew right away that this was something I wanted to be a part of."

    Jennifer Beech, FH Volunteer

  • "The mission of bringing hope into people's lives through home furnishings is simple and beautiful. I've watched FH go from a small start-up, basically a dream, to the amazing movement it is today. I can't think of anything I'd rather advocate than HOPE!"

Chris Earwicker, FH Board Vice President

Volunteer FAQs

  • We have a volunteer team for everyone! Choose what works for you & your schedule: Donation Center, Transportation, Storefront, Admin, Procurement Auction & Special Events.

  • We have Donation Center teams that volunteer one or two days a week for approximately 2.5 hr shifts:

    Mon-Fri from 8:45-11:30am
    Sat from 8:45-11am

  • One day you might fulfill a recipient’s packing list by gathering, sorting, and loading items onto the trailer. Another day, you might help by assembling bedding/bath bundles, dish ware/cutlery sets, or greeting people arriving with donations and cleaning/sorting items.

  • There are plenty of volunteer needs that don't require heavy lifting, such as sorting or cleaning items and greeting people as they arrive with donations.

  • We are flexible and welcome all volunteers. There is always a need at the Donation Center! While regular shifts are preferred, we have a calendar system where you are able to mark your absences as needed.

  • Furniture banks are registered charities, not-for-profit organizations or organizations designed to provide gently used household furnishings to individuals and families in need. If you are in need of furniture or have furniture you would like to donate, Furnish Hope would love to help you.

  • Any person or family without the financial means to make their empty house into a furnished home is said to be living in furniture poverty. This affects too many low-income people in the United States, and the impact can be devastating.

Not having a bed to sleep on means a poor night’s sleep, affecting your ability to live, work and study. Not having a sofa to sit on means you can be unwilling to invite friends or support workers into your home. Moving into empty housing can often lead to people giving up housing and returning to a shelter because at least there they have a bed to sleep on.

Furniture poverty can present itself in many ways. Some households exhibit furniture insecurity: they may have the items they need for now, however, if something essential breaks or needs replacing, they often do not have the means to do so. These households are often moving from one crisis to another. Other households exhibit furniture destitution when they have none or very few of the basic items needed.

Furnish Hope steps in to narrow these affordability gaps and provide the essentials that foster permanency, comfort and pride.
