Board of Directors
Debra Lavell | President
Debra was born in a small town on the coast of Oregon, attending high school in Salem and then spent several years attending a variety of colleges in Washington State, California and Arizona. She has her bachelor's degree in Management and Leadership with an emphasis in Industrial Relations. Working in a variety of industries, she finally landed in Hillsboro, Oregon where she spent almost twenty-five years at Intel. Now retired, but still consulting, she has built a career teaching, coaching and leading others.
During COVID, Debra and her husband moved to Bend to retire and enjoy the many activities that Central Oregon has to offer, including hiking, biking and skiing. Her husband, Kym, is on Mount Bachelor's National Ski Patrol. In 2022, she met FH Executive Director Megan Martin and was so impressed with Furnish Hope's mission that she has been volunteering her time ever since.
Bob Oury | Vice President
Bob retired in January 2024 after thirty-five years at the helm of the wholesale distributorship he founded that focused on selling, installing and servicing warehouse equipment. Bob’s passion has always been customer and employee relationships, and mentoring the next generation. While managing his own business, he also sat on many Washington State Labor & Industries committees for his industry, and on his manufacturer’s executive committee. During his career, Bob also assisted his wife, Trish, with her nonprofit guild, Catalina’s Hope, raising funds to support Seattle Children’s Hospital’s families for uncompensated care.
Both Bob and Trish volunteer at the Furnish Hope distribution center, and Trish also offers her time at Furnish Hope & Home. In his spare time, Bob can be found skiing, golfing, spending time with his grandkids, or traveling with Trish and enjoying friendships.
Pam Field | Secretary
Prior to retirement, Pam worked in nonprofit management for more than forty years and volunteered on many Boards. Pam first learned about Furnish Hope when she visited the storefront on opening day in September 2022. After attending a volunteer orientation, Pam knew that she wanted to contribute to helping the organization grow.
Pam has a bachelor’s degree in public relations from the University of Florida and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Oregon. She spends winters in Florida to be with her two young grandchildren.
Shannon Jones | Treasurer
Shannon has worked in the financial services industry for twenty years and is currently employed as a Senior Portfolio Manager at JGP Wealth Management. She received both a bachelor’s degree in Finance and a Masters in Business Administration from Florida State University.
Born and raised in Florida, Shannon has lived in Oregon for the last six years and moved to Bend with her husband in 2022. She enjoys pilates, hiking and cooking. Shannon is excited to join the Furnish Hope Board and sees the opportunity as a way to give back to the community she now calls home.
Cindy Cannon | Board Member
Cindy is retired from a career as an human resources professional, having worked for some great Pacific Northwest companies, including REI, Nordstrom and Redfin. Cindy and her husband made the decision to retire in Central Oregon after having lived in Seattle, WA and Santa Cruz, CA.
Cindy joined Furnish Hope in January 2023 as a volunteer in the distribution center. In June 2023, she stepped into a volunteer coordinator role. Her passion for Furnish Hope and sharing its story with others has allowed her to continue building Furnish Hope’s volunteer team, a vital support for both the distribution center and Furnish Hope & Home.
In her spare time, she and her husband enjoy fly fishing, spending time on the road in their RV and taking in everything that Central Oregon has to offer.
Julie Hotchkiss
Julie began her professional career practicing law in Charlotte, North Carolina, and after a few years of formal practice, she was recruited to launch a charitable estate planning program at Queens University in Charlotte. Julie’s desire to move west led her to secure a position at the High Desert Museum in Bend where she worked for nearly a decade. After her time at the Museum and a few years launching a fundraising program at the Deschutes River Conservancy, Julie made her way back to higher education. She served as the Director of Development for OSU-Cascades for several years before transitioning to specialize in charitable estate planning for the Oregon State University Foundation.
Julie’s non-profit service has varied from animal welfare organizations to cycling to supporting her alma mater institutions. She is thrilled to now begin a new journey with her role on the Furnish Hope Board.
