2024 Chair Design Winners
The votes have been counted and these are the winning chair designs!
As preparations for our CHAIRitable event continue, we are excited to celebrate the talent and creativity of local artists who over the past six weeks have transformed recycled chairs into stunning works of art. The chairs were displayed at Furnish Hope & Home for two weeks to allow community members to vote for their favorite designs, and the winners have been decided!
So many choices and so many votes! This year's array of entries was truly amazing as demonstrated by a tie for both first and third place chairs designs! Congratulations to the winning designers whose chairs will be included in the live auction at our CHAIRitable event in May!
Winning Design Inspirations
On behalf of the winning designers, we are honored to share their words and inspiration. We are grateful for their time and talent, and we look forward to applauding each chair's contribution to the event's fundraising success.
Better Together by Justin Van Patten
Merging components from five separate chairs, this process "mirrors the way members of a community unite, each bringing their unique contributions, to form a singular, powerful entity. It's a testament to the beauty and strength that emerges when diverse elements come together, creating something far greater than the sum of its parts."
Life's Hardships by Paul Tkachenko
"I wanted to incorporate a number of techniques that I have learned over the years to articulate to others how the art of nature's elements, such as fire, lightning and aging, can be quite beautiful. Life's hardships can be just as beautiful as nature allows."
Just Around the BEND by Emily Cathcart Designs + ECD Cabinetry
"This chair is all things Bend. I want people's love for BEND to be felt in this chair when looking at all the details. It’s meant to be a conversation piece for people to connect with their community and be inspired to support it. That’s where Furnish Hope comes in!"
Home is Where the Dog is by Kristin Tucker
"My inspiration came when I saw the 'Design Dua' basket, hand-woven by local artisans in Ghana from natural elephant grass and dyes. The company creates opportunities for rural artisans through community empowerment, education, and awareness. Your furry friend has a personality, so their bed should too! "
Vienna Memories by Babette Lary
"The inspiration for my piece came during a trip to Vienna when I stood and admired the famous painting, “The Kiss” by Gustav Klimt. My take-away is that everyone can inspire others - in art, in words, in actions. Furnish Hope does this."
After the event, the chairs will be returned to FH and gifted to recipients through a selection process and drawing. These chairs offer more than a place to sit; they become comfy places for reading, relaxing, and playtime allowing your support to create a lasting impact. Together, we furnish hope and homes!
